Cisco to equip Oman’s largest data center

Hardware for Data Mount’s forthcoming installation in Jebel El Akhdar. Cisco has signed a memorandum of understanding with Data Mount, a hosting business in Oman, consenting to provide hardware, networking equipment, as well as managed cloud as well as safety solutions for the country’s largest data center, currently being assembled in Jebel El Akhdar, 150km from the capital of Muscat. Data Mount will utilize the facility to provide disaster cloud and recovery solutions – the latter is a brand new addition to the company’s offering, which traditionally comprised wholesale colocation and managed data center services.

Cisco will provide the underlying technologies.

– Oh boy.

The data centre will serve the government and the enterprise clients, with a strong concentrate on the banking industry, Al Muslahi, Data Mount chairman, told TradeArabia. He added: Cisco, as a technology leader and a professional in intelligent data center technology, is the best business to help us in this undertaking. We anticipate working closely with them and leveraging their knowledge, expertise, innovative technology, best practices and skilled resources. The introduction of cloud solutions, Al Muslahi said, is in line with Digital Oman’s strategy, initially set out from the Sultanate in 2008, which intends to diversify the country’s economics – mostly reliant on petroleum and gas exports, although it’s got a growing tourism industry – by encouraging wider adoption of digital services. The initiative has seen the implementation of networking projects, such as that of Ooredoo, which maintained to possess connected 77, 000 homes with fiber broadband. The Sultanate’s first private telecoms company based in Qatar, said in the time that it’d provide 4G connectivity to 90% of Oman’s 4.6 million taxpayers by the end of April.
